Usually if we can manage it, in the school holidays we try to do one outing or activity that costs money – something a bit different or exciting for the kids (ok – and us too!). Last weekend ‘The City Slider’ came to Kurunda – just a 30 minute drive down the road for us, and the lure of a 325 metre water slide in the middle of town was just too much for us to miss so we bought tickets to go along! The City Slider is a two lane slide, 6m wide, 325m long and has a layer of 40mm foam underneath it for a soft landing and recycles as much water as possible. I had showed the kids this video from The City Slider website;
so they were very much looking forward to this day out in the holidays, which also coincided with some visiting cousins and a mate from Brisbane. We had a pretty big gang of us ready to hit the slide!
Unfortunately the day ended up being a little overcast and cold, but that didn’t stop the kids (and Matt) having lots of fun! As well as the big ‘City Slider’ there was also, a smaller 25 metre slide which was free to allow the younger kids who weren’t tall enough (you must be 110cm to ride the City Slider) to still have a fun afternoon out. Lexi loved it and the best thing was there were not too many kids using the small slide so no waiting in line! The kids slide did need a bit of a hand from a willing volunteer or parent to get the kids moving at any sort of speed along it, but the smaller kids didn’t seem to mind how fast or slow they went – there were still smiles all round! The City Slider went right under the Skyrail Cable Cars which would have given the visitors riding them that day – plenty to look at!
Ticket prices were pretty expensive for the City Slider at $35 per person for a 1.5 hour session. The boys ended up getting only 4 turns on the slide during our timeslot due to the fact that our session was sold out and there was lots of waiting in line for a turn. Now that we have done it once, I probably wouldn’t spend the money again – however we all agreed it was really great fun and we were glad we went. We loved the fantastic atmosphere with loud music pumping, people of all ages outside having fun, smiling faces everywhere and an awesome community, family friendly feel to the afternoon. Such a simple pleasure really – just a great big water slide bringing people together for basic, clean, healthy fun!
Great job and thanks Kuranda for bringing the City Slider to town and for a fun school holiday outing! Has anybody else tried The City Slider out in their town? Do you love a good water slide as much as we do??
